DR. EVE HERMANSSON-WEBB (she/her)

PhD, PgDipClinPsyc, PgDipSc, BA Hons, BA

I’m a Senior Clinical Psychologist who specialises in eating disorders and body image concerns. I’ve worked for over 9 years treating individuals with eating disorders in both the public and private healthcare sectors. I'm experienced in treating Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, and Binge Eating Disorder, as well as other diagnoses that fall under OSFED (Other Specified Feeding and Eating Disorders), plus subclinical and early stage eating disorders. I have also supported clients of all shapes and sizes struggling with negative body image, which is a risk factor for the development of eating disorders.

I've treated other mental health problems that commonly co-occur with eating disorders, like mood disorders, anxiety disorders, low self-esteem, emotion dysregulation, non-suicidal self-injury, and trauma. Psychological therapies I’m trained in include Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT, CBT-E and CBT-T), Specialist Supportive Clinical Management (SSCM), Guided Self Help (GSH), and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy for Eating Disorders (DBT-ED).

In order to succeed in treatment, a secure and supportive therapeutic relationship is crucial. I aim to provide a safe and affirming space for my clients to speak openly about their thoughts, feelings and behaviours without fear of judgement. My therapeutic style is one of empathy, compassion, respect and curiosity alongside appropriate humour and occasional pop culture references. I work collaboratively with clients to help them develop a peaceful relationship with food and with their bodies, and to make positive changes towards living a meaningful and fulfilled life, free from disordered eating.

I am passionate about challenging harmful diet culture and society’s unrealistic body ideals. I believe in and advocate for respectful and effective care for all people, regardless of their size, shape, ethnicity, culture, gender, age, sexuality or background. I enjoy helping clients to develop an appreciation for their bodies and the recognition that their worth as a person is not dependent on their weight, shape or physical appearance.

Along with working in private practice, I’m also contracted to the public health system as a specialist eating disorder clinician. I offer specialist supervision and consultation across New Zealand to other professionals in the field of eating disorders.
